Anuradhapura is a major city located in the north central plain of Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of North Central Province and the capital of Anuradhapura District. The city lies 205 kilometres (127 mi) north of the current capital of Colombo in the North Central Province, on the banks of the historic Malwathu Oya. The city is now a World Heritage Site famous for its well-preserved ruins of the ancient Sinhalese civilisation.
Anuradhapura is an ancient city located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was the capital of the country for over 1,300 years and is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many important Buddhist temples and monuments.
One of the most impressive sights in Anuradhapura is the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree. This sacred tree is believed to have been grown from a cutting of the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. It is the oldest living tree in the world with a recorded history and is highly revered by Buddhists around the world.
